"European Bauxites S.A.", a subsidiary of METLEN Energy & Metals, is one of the largest companies in Europe engaged in bauxite mining.
The company was established after the acquisition of IMERYS Bauxite Greece by METLEN Energy & Metals, making a strong contribution to the mining and metallurgical industry of Greece and Europe. With this acquisition, METLEN becomes the largest bauxite producer in the European Union, strengthening the company's strategic position both in Europe and globally.
"European Bauxites" is integrated into the Metallurgy Sector (M Metals) of METLEN, along with the company Delphi Distomo, which is also involved in bauxite mining in the Fokida region. This acquisition significantly increases METLEN's annual production capacity, ensuring its autonomy in raw materials for the "Aluminium of Greece" plant, the only fully vertically integrated unit producing bauxite, alumina, and primary aluminum in the European Union.
The integration of "European Bauxites" into the Metallurgy Sector (M Metals) of METLEN not only boosts bauxite production but also allows METLEN to make significant investments in the development of new deposits, equipment upgrades, environmental restoration of mining areas, and the production of strategically important metals like gallium. Gallium production will fully meet the needs of the European market, a particularly important factor as the European Union strives to reduce its dependence on third countries for critical raw materials, especially at a time when the "Green Transition" demands significant quantities of aluminum and alumina.
The new company, under the name "EUROPEAN BAUXITES SINGLE MEMBER S.A.", was registered with the General Commercial Registry (GEMI) on June 18, 2024, with registration number 005035501000.
"European Bauxites" plays a pivotal role in the local economy of Fokida, offering significant employment opportunities. It directly employs 500 highly skilled workers in the mining sector, while it will also create further indirect employment opportunities by strengthening local industry and boosting economic activity in the area.
At a time when energy and industrial challenges are constantly increasing, the acquisition of "European Bauxites" by METLEN not only expands its production capacity but also ensures the sustainable and competitive growth of the M Metals Division, while simultaneously strengthening the Greek and European economy.
